The Salt Lake County Council voted to officially oppose a proposed mining bill at the state capitol.
The bill recommended would lessen regulations to allow mines to expand with a focus on reducing the cost of sand and gravel.
Critics argued it would undermine local authority and infringe on property owners’ rights.
A similar bill filed in the Senate earlier in the legislative session died, but the new legislation has been introduced in the House.
